New living room rug

Love the design...love the color...not sold on how much dog fur sticks to it. Lots of vacuuming in James' future (cause I'm preggers, remember?!).

We got the rug from rugsusa.com.

It's been a while...

a while since I've blogged.  That's not to say we haven't been busy at LaNa!!
  • I've been doing a lot of organizing of closets, drawers, and rooms.
  • We purchased a new stove when ours died around Thanksgiving and I'm LOVING cooking on the new range.
  • Last week, our new living room rug was delivered and is gorgeous!
  • We finally bought, DIY'd, and hung curtains in our bedroom - finally!!
  • And, of course, I've got a before/after project to share of a bedroom dresser.
Last, but not least (and this will give you an idea of why I've been so neglectful of the blog!), we will start redecorating the two spare rooms at LaNa to make way for a NURSERY!!

Stay tuned for updates and photos soon.

Cheers to all for a wonderful 2012 and year of the dragon!

Reusing wooden pallets

Love this idea of wooden pallets for fencing...

Why do I think a pallet fence is a good idea? Well, you can find pallets around town for FREE! Fences are pricey...so, this is definitely economical. Also, you would be saving the pallets from going to a landfill which is definitely earth friendly. Lastly, you will have a unique fence which you can either paint or leave natural.

I found a nifty site that gives you directions on how to go about putting a pallet fence together.

Itchin' for a kitchen remodel!

I'm itching for some updates in our kitchen. I'm thinking new countertops would make the world of difference! However, I'd also love some new cabinets. We have the original cabinets to the house, which I think is quaint. However, they're not practical and some of them "shed" when they're open and closed. Picture saw dust-type debris in my mixing bowls. I think our budget right now is formica countertops, but I've got caviar dreams!

A new way to recycle?

I'm a HUGE recycler!  My husband has also become a big recycler since moving into LaNa.  However, he'll probably think I'm crazy with this idea...

Have you ever considered landscaping with glass bottles?  We typically have some glass wine/water (ok - mostly WINE!) bottles for recycling and I'm learning that some people love to "recycle" these into their gardens in borders.

In fact, I even came across a site with how to instructions!

I also stumbled upon The Casual Gardener blog with photos and more instructions:

I'm really digging the cobalt blue wine boarder. I can see this in the front garden at LaNa!
